Sha Wujing is a character from the Chinese classic novel "Journey to the West" (西遊記), also known as "Monkey" in English. He is one of the four main characters who accompany the monk Xuanzang on his journey to India to obtain Buddhist scriptures.
Sha Wujing, also known as Sha Seng, is a former celestial being who was banished from heaven and transformed into a river demon for breaking a vase. He is depicted as a large and strong man with a fearsome appearance, including a third eye on his forehead. Despite his intimidating appearance, Sha Wujing is actually very kind-hearted and loyal to Xuanzang.
In the novel, Sha Wujing is the third disciple to join Xuanzang's journey, after Sun Wukong (the Monkey King) and Zhu Bajie (the Pig). He is responsible for carrying the luggage and provisions for the group, as well as assisting in their battles against various demons and monsters they encounter along the way.
Sha Wujing eventually attains enlightenment and is granted human form after proving his loyalty and dedication to their quest. He is often portrayed as a symbol of humility, repentance, and redemption in traditional Chinese culture.
